Sing 'n' Swing

Gerry Ciavarella

Gerry moved to Paynesville in 1995 to take up a full time Instrumental Music teaching position at Bairnsdale SC. He had completed a Diploma in Jazz at the Victorian College Of The Arts followed by a Bachelor of teaching degree at Melbourne University. During this time he had been actively involved in playing with many bands having the opportunity to tour nationally and internationally with artists such as Kylie Minogue and the Legends Of Motown: The Four Tops And Temptations as well as many other artists.

He has been the Instrumental Music Co-ordinator at Bairnsdale SC for the past 12 years. He is responsible for running the College Swing Band who are in constant demand in the community performing at many functions including the Merimbula Jazz and Paynesville Music Festivals each year.

Whilst living in Paynesville he continues to play an active role in organising numerous functions throughout the community, providing music for fundraisers as well as other special events. Joining Sing n’ Swing with Jeff has been lots of fun adding fills and many solos on the sax. If you listen closely you might hear the odd vocal harmony.

Jeff Parkes

Jeff began his life in Jazz at fifteen, playing sousaphone with The New Harlem Jazz Band in the early 70s. After a break for a few years, he became a founder member of Radio Days, a seven piece ‘little swing band’ in the late 80s, playing sax and guitar and singing.
A sea-change in 2002 brought Jeff to Raymond Island, then Mount Taylor where he recorded his solo CD ‘Look At Me’ which was released at the Raymond Island Hall in 2007. From there it was a natural progression to performing solo at hotels, bars, restaurants and private functions.
Jeff occasionally sang with Gerry’s various groups over the years and Gerry performed with Jeff but they decided to form Sing ‘n’ Swing as a Jazz Duo in 2017 and haven’t looked back.
